Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 - Kigali: Arrive to Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by one of our experienced safari guides and transferred to your hotel. After check-in, your guide will brief you on your upcoming safari, including what to expect, important guidelines, and helpful tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing and settling in before your adventure begins. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 2 - Kigali: Kigali City tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel for a half-day tour of Kigali. Highlights include a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site and Museum, where you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Rwanda’s history and the 1994 genocide. You’ll also explore vibrant local markets and other key city attractions. After the tour, enjoy lunch before setting off for Volcanoes National Park. The drive takes you through Rwanda’s breathtaking mountainous landscapes and lush green countryside, truly living up to its nickname, “The Land of a Thousand Hills.”

Day 3 - Ruhengeri: Gorilla trekking in Rwanda and Community Walk
After breakfast, you will be transferred from your lodge to the park headquarters for a briefing on today’s gorilla trekking adventure. It’s recommended to pack lunch and water, and consider hiring porters to assist during the trek, as the time spent tracking can vary. Following the briefing by park rangers, you’ll be assigned a gorilla family and begin your search through the forest for these magnificent creatures.
Gorilla trekking can take anywhere from a few hours to a full day, depending on where the gorillas were last seen. While a good level of fitness is helpful, those who need assistance can hire porters, sometimes called “human helicopters,” who can carry you in sedan chairs. Once you find the gorillas, you’ll have up to one hour to observe, photograph, and record these gentle giants in their natural habitat. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, take a community walk to Red Rocks, a local project dedicated to improving livelihoods through environmental conservation, arts and culture, education, and community health initiatives.

Day 4 - Ruhengeri: Golden Monkey Tracking and departure
After breakfast, return to the park offices for a briefing on today’s activity: Golden Monkey tracking. These endangered monkeys, native to Volcanoes National Park, are easier to find and the trek is shorter and less strenuous than gorilla trekking. After your tracking experience, return to the lodge for an early lunch before transferring to Kigali Airport for your onward journey.
