Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a dense, lush forest on the edge of the Albertine Rift Valley. It’s home to almost half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas, making it one of the best places in the world for gorilla trekking. The park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, rich in wildlife like monkeys, elephants, antelopes, and over 350 bird species—perfect for nature lovers.
Important luggage info:
On the small planes, luggage is limited to 15 kg (including hand luggage and camera gear). Only soft bags are allowed—no hard suitcases or bags with wheels because they won’t fit in the plane’s storage.

Your breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included today.
Today is the big day—your gorilla trekking adventure! You’ll start early with a transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing with the Uganda Wildlife Authority guides. They will explain the rules and safety tips for the trek to help protect both you and the gorillas.
Before you set off, an advance team of guides will have already gone into the forest to find where the gorillas spent the night. Once they locate the gorillas, they’ll send a radio message to let you know it’s time to enter the forest.
As you trek through the thick vegetation of Bwindi, keep your eyes open for other wildlife like chimpanzees, baboons, and L’Hoest’s monkeys. When you finally meet the gorillas, you’ll have one full hour to observe and enjoy their behavior up close.
After your unforgettable encounter, you’ll head back to the lodge, where you can relax and reflect on this incredible experience for the rest of the day.

On this trip, you will also walk through forests to look for mountain gorillas. This walk is not too hard, but we recommend having a basic level of fitness to help you enjoy the experience.
Consider extending your stay with an extra night at Lemala Wildwaters, the second most photographed hotel on Instagram in 2023! This gives you more time to relax in stunning surroundings and enjoy another full day trekking with the gorillas. You can also choose to take an optional trek to visit the Batwa pygmies, the original inhabitants of Bwindi who have lived alongside the mountain gorillas for generations, offering a unique cultural experience to complement your wildlife adventure.
All safari lodges include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Most lodges also offer western-style and local meals. Premium drinks are not included, so you will need to pay for them when you check out of the lodge. If you are out for gorilla trekking, you may need to go with packed lunch. If you told us about any dietary needs when booking, we will share them with the safari team. Please also remind your safari guide if you have any special dietary requirements.
Tipping can be different in each country, and it’s sometimes hard to know what to do. In Uganda, tipping is not mandatory, but it is always appreciated. It is your choice. Tips are a way to say thank you for good service. They are not a replacement for fair pay. All our guides are paid well and treated fairly. If you are happy with the service, we suggest giving about $5 per person per day to your guide and driver, and $2 to $5 per person per day to the Gorilla tracking guides or rangers. It’s a good idea to plan for about $80 to $100 in total for tips during your trip.
